Who We Are

Who Are We?

First Christian Church is a fellowship of people who want to serve God in a world that is often confusing and always morally challenging. We have found forgiveness and peace with God through Jesus Christ, and we want others to find that forgiveness and peace too. We are part of the larger association of Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ). Historically, we have aimed to walk in fellowship with all other churches that accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and the divine inspiration and authority of Scripture. In the words of one of our founders over 200 years ago, "We have no creed but Christ, no book but the Bible." In Laramie, our congregation comes from a wide range of social, educational, and economic strata, from a diversity of nationalities, races, and ethnic groups. Our common bond is that we all are sinners who have found forgiveness and wholeness in Jesus Christ.

What Do We Believe?
We believe the historic Christian creeds as good expressions of truth about God and his workings with humankind. We believe in one God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who created the universe, and who made humanity as the crown of his creation. We believe in Jesus Christ, God's Son and God's word to mankind, who took upon himself human form and lived on earth subject to the limitations of a human body. He was put to death, and in dying he paid the penalty for our own evil, as we trust and obey him. He rose from the dead and thereby guaranteed to his people the promise of eternal life. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the person of God who indwells those who come to the Father through Jesus Christ, and who leads and empowers them to live God's kind of life. We believe in the divine inspiration and authority of the Bible as God's written word to people. It is an accurate and reliable guide for daily living and for knowing God. We believe in the unity of all who follow Jesus as their master and savior, regardless of church affiliation.

Who Is Welcome?
All people who want to know God or who already know him are welcome to worship and fellowship with us. The students and staffs of Wyoming Technical Institute, Laramie County Community College, and the University of Wyoming are encouraged to worship with us.

How Can I Be a Part?

Come on Sunday morning for one of the worship hours listed. Make that a regular part of your life, and invite Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior. After He becomes your Lord and Savior and begins to work in your life, He will lead you to seek where and how you can serve. The pastors will be happy to suggest areas of need where you would be invaluable.

History
The Early Years

The First Christian Church was established in Laramie, Wyoming during the year 1888. For unknown reasons, the congregation stopped meeting and discontinued in the early 1900's. In the fall of 1929, a series of meetings were head, and 66 people organized the present Christian Church. The women's Christian Missionary Society was also organized at this time. It is now know as the CWF (Christian Women's Fellowship). A small building was rented at

408 Fremont St.
in March of 1930. This was to be a temporary arrangement, but it lasted 13 years. The Roach House at 5th and Custer was purchased in 1945. It was completely remodeled, and new pews, pulpit and a baby grand piano were purchased. This church building was sold to the Salvation Army in 1954, after which the Presbyterian Church building at 6th and Grand was acquired and remodeled.

Recent History

Due to overcrowded services, the current facility at 2130 Garfield was purchased in 1984. Previously it had been used as a bowling alley, grocery store, archaeological survey business and discount store. It was remodeled and has been the home of Laramie's First Christian Church ever since.
